EEAC Sidesaddle

Capture the elegance of days gone by

Heather Carstairs, registered Sidesaddle Instructor, is now offering side saddle lessons at Easterton Farm, 2 miles from Gleneagles.

There are several well schooled horses there that have become accustomed to the different feel of the sidesaddle and are ready to be used for lessons whether you are new to sidesaddle or wish to progress your skills.

A few lessons can work wonders to improve your position for astride riding as well.

There is accommodation available in the farmhouse, and weekend breaks to learn the art of sidesaddle are on offer.

A sad note to the picture on the right is that Snooks was requisitioned by the army at the start of the 2nd World War and never seen again.

Happily Mary lived well into her eighties and her wish for her 80th birthday was to sit on a side saddle again. Here she is seen sitting on the much loved Welsh Cob, Langarth Gwen ( then 20 years old), shortly after Gleneagles opened. The story was reported in the local newspaper.

YOU ARE NEVER TOO OLD TO HAVE A GO!!!!!!

PS Gwen lived on to reach the ripe old age of 34.

What a lovely holiday!! I have just got back from Easterton Farm (near Gleneagles) where I spent 4 days at their B&B. They also do holiday livery and offer lessons on their own schoolmasters or your own horse. These include dressage, natural horsemanship AND side saddle. Peter and Ann (farm owners) are very welcoming and helpful and Heather Carstairs (side saddle instructor) was very patient and explained things so clearly that I finally got my position right! My confidence is now so improved that I am thinking about doing more than just hack. Thank you to all at Easterton for not being fazed by an older, substantially built novice.
